PARIS – A Dixfield man on probation from a 1999 conviction for vehicular manslaughter and driving with a suspended license, was indicted Wednesday on charges stemming from a March 18 accident that seriously injured himself and two others.

Christopher M. Jasud, 31, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated driving to endanger, criminal operating under the influence and operating after suspension, all stemming from a crash on Route 2 in Dixfield involving three cars.

Regarding the aggravated assault and endangerment charges, Jasud is accused of recklessly causing, through criminal negligence with a car, serious injuries to driver Nina M. Langervin, 41, of Dixfield, and Christine Abbott, 54, of Mexico, a passenger in a third car.

According to the criminal OUI charge, Jasud had a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or more. The indictment states that Jasud was convicted of manslaughter on March 5, 1999, in Oxford County Superior Court. His license was also suspended after the conviction, which noted he was driving drunk when the accident occurred.

According to Dixfield Patrolman Rusty Daley, Jasud had 10 convictions for vehicle-related incidents and six license suspensions prior to the 1999 accident.

In that accident on May 23, 1998, in Byron, Jasud was driving a van that left Route 17 and hit a tree while he and three passengers were returning home from a night of partying in Rangeley, court records state.

Jasud’s best friend, Seth Giberson, 25, of Rumford, died of injuries suffered in the wreck.

Jasud pleaded guilty to manslaughter and OUI and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with all but 5 years suspended on the wrongful death charge, and three years in prison on the OUI charge; the latter to be served concurrently.

On March 18, 2006, drove past Daley at a higher than posted speed, Dixfield Police Chief Richard Pickett said. By the time Daley caught up to him, Jasud had crossed the centerline, according to evidence and witnesses, slamming into two westbound cars. Arraignment dates for Jasud, Webber, Haseltine and Conant in Oxford County Superior Court have yet to be scheduled.
