LIVERMORE – The October theme dinner at Norlands Living History Center will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at Norlands.
This month’s dinner will be a celebration of the bounty of the field harvest. The evening begins at 5 p.m. Willi Irish, director of interpretation at Norlands, portrays her great-great-aunt, Clara Howard, and shares the process of harvesting food in the 19th century.
Irish will talk about all the preparations leading to the larders full of fresh vegetables, the storehouses brimming with grains, the cold cider and meats in the smokehouse.
A meal of fresh foods from the garden will be served at 5:30 p.m. including squash tarts, creamed cabbage, roasted vegetables, baked tomatoes, pork roast, rolls and pumpkin and apple pie for dessert.
After the dinner at 7 p.m., Norlands’ monthly barn dance with a caller and live music will be held.
The cost for the dinner and dance is $25. Reservations will be accepted until 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22. Payment is expected when reservations are made. Those interested in attending only the barn dance may do so for $5. More information may be obtained by calling Norlands at 897-4366.
