FARMINGTON – SAD 9 directors plan to hold a public hearing Tuesday on a $21.3 million school spending plan for 2004-05. A proposed $351,567 adult education budget, with the district’s share to be $76,600, will also come under review.

The hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. at the library at Mount Blue High School. It will be followed by the directors’ regular meeting.

The $21.3 million proposal reflects a $95,809 increase, a less than a half of 1 percent hike over the existing budget.

To reach that amount, several items and positions have been eliminated. These include eight teacher positions at the kindergarten-through-grade-eight level, two study-hall monitors at the high school and six assistant coaching positions at the high school.

Also, directors funded a larger portion of the assistant superintendent’s position through federal money by assigning responsibility for grant writing to that position, postponed maintenance items, eliminated one bus driver position and one custodial position, and reduced library money by $10,000.
