JAY – Firefighters responded to a leaking propane tank behind Jay Plaza on Sunday night.

A tenant of the plaza noticed the leak and shut off the tank off, said Assistant Fire Chief Jim Shink. But the man still could hear the leak and called police.

Shink, who has a propane license, said he tried to tighten the nut to stop it but it continued to leak.

Firefighters let the propane bleed out in the line and called in the propane company, Shink said.

It was a 1,000-gallon tank of propane used for heating. Shink said he did not believe much propane leaked out.
