NEW SHARON – Two people have been charged with seven residential burglaries in Fayette and Vienna. It is estimated that $5,000 to $7,000 in items were taken in the break-ins.
“We have located a great deal of stolen property,” Maine State Police investigator Bryant Jacques said.
Michael Rackliffe, 18, of Chesterville and a 16-year-old boy living in New Sharon have been charged with burglary and theft, Jacques said.
Firearms were among the items taken in the five burglaries in Vienna and two in Fayette between Jan. 12 and 23, the investigator said.
State police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department worked on the case together.
The sheriff’s department received some information that stolen property could be found at a house on Starks Road in New Sharon, the trooper said.
Jacques urged people who have seasonal residences to conduct routine checks of their property.
Some of the places burglarized were seasonal residences, Jacques said, and if it weren’t for alert neighbors, police wouldn’t know about these burglaries until the camps were opened up in the spring.
