100 years ago, 1909
While in Lewiston Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Webb Hall of Sabattus slipped on the icy sidewalk and fell. Mrs. Hall alighted from the electric car opposite the Great Department Store, her foot slipped and she fell to the ground.
Mrs. Hall, who is a very heavy woman, had to be carried to the car again, in which she was taken to Sabattus. She is under the care of a physician and at last report was resting as comfortably as could be expected.
50 years ago, 1959
The drinking problem at Edward Little High School is “practically negligible,” Principal Arnold G. Westerberg said in a recent interview in the school newspaper.
Westerberg said he recognizes the fact that some ELHS students drink alcoholic beverages, but does not consider drinking to be a problem either in the school or at school functions.
A recent survey of Maine high school principals showed that about 20 percent of those surveyed considered alcoholic drinking to be a problem in their schools.

The Lewiston Lions Club is on a Lion safari, looking for old, former and transferred Lions.
The Lewiston club will hold a special membership meeting on Jan. 8. Any “wayward” Lions have been invited. Zone Chairman Richard Mallar is the special guest.
