WILTON – A new sign went up Friday at Rick’s Market, announcing Caf Rick’s instead of Dunkin’ Donuts.
Rick Breau of Bethel bought the former Steve’s Market along Depot Street and routes 2 and 4 in May. Inside Rick’s Market, the Dunkin’ Donuts franchise’s counter and racks for doughnuts, muffins and bagels have been removed.
By Tuesday, Breau plans to have an 18-foot counter area installed and donut displays in a cafe-type setting. He’ll be making homemade muffins and donuts for Caf Rick’s.
He also plans on having his own brand of coffee, “Caf Rick’s,” and will be grinding coffee beans in the store.
Dunkin’ Donuts is setting up shop at the newly reconstructed Big Apple Store about a half-mile down the road.
John Pinto, spokesman for C.N. Brown, which operates the Big Apple chain, confirmed Friday that Dunkin’ Donuts would set up a franchise in the Wilton store. There is a drive-up window and there will be a counter there, store Manager Leigh Teel said.
Neither Pinto nor Teel knew when Dunkin’ Donuts would be opening there.
However, Breau plans to give Dunkin’ Donuts some competition.
“Dunkin’ Donuts is going to find out there’s going to be some good competition,” Breau said. “We’re going to roll and people are going to love it.”
