FARMINGTON – A Farmington man who pleaded guilty in January to throwing a pipe bomb through the window of a Farmington home wants to withdraw his plea, according to Superior Court records.

Mark C. Reynolds, 21, of Farmington admitted he threw the weapon through a window of a Barlen Street home a year ago believing that one of the family members there was a terrorist. No one was injured in the incident. Reynolds is also accused of shooting several bullets into a New Sharon home in March 2003.

He had been released to his parents under house arrest but was taken into federal custody in February when state police found a sawed-off shot gun buried in the yard of his parents’ Whittier Road residence. Possession of such a weapon is a federal offense.

Federal authorities conducted tests to determine whether Reynolds is competent to stand trial and found that he is.

Reynolds is scheduled to appear in federal court in the fall. If his guilty plea on state charges remains on the record, it would elevate his federal case, according to Andrew Robinson, assistant district attorney.

Reynolds’ attorney, Walter Hanstein, filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea in Superior Court so that it will not affect his client’s federal case. If the motion is denied and he is found guilty of the federal charge, the sentence for the federal charge could be more severe.

The state case was continued to allow state attorneys to determine whether or not to object to the motion.
