RYE, N.H. (AP) – The car and home of a union boss in Rye were fired upon in a drive-by shooting early Friday, police said.
Several residents of Sagamore Road reported hearing the rapid shots at about 4:30 a.m. No one was hurt.
Police said bullets shattered the glass of the backseat windows of a car and made a hole in the siding of the house of William Roach, a harbormaster in Portsmouth and president of the International Longshoremans Association.
Police said they have no suspects, but they are following several leads. A neighbor reported to investigators that he saw a full-sized pickup truck moving slower than usual on the road. Police also retrieved a bullet from inside the house.
Roach “told us a few things and we are doing some follow up on them now,” Walsh said. “We want to be sure we are accurate and not going too fast on rumors. Obviously he’s very upset. His wife and kids were home and this could have gone horribly wrong in so many ways.”
Because Roach is a public employee, the attorney general’s office was alerted to the investigation. Officers patrolled the area throughout the day but said it was an isolated incident.
