CHESHIRE, Conn. (AP) – Little Guy had quite a big scare.

The 13-year-old Chihuahua took off running from his burning home in Meriden on Sunday. The fire, believed to have started in the garage, destroyed the Edemark Acres home.

On Wednesday, about 72 hours later, the frightened pet showed up on a street in Cheshire, about 1 miles from his home. That’s where 12-year-old Joe Kelly spotted it.

“He wouldn’t calm down,” Kelly said.

And he wouldn’t come to Kelly, who along with a neighbor contacted Cheshire’s animal control officer, April Leiler. A newspaper article on Little Guy, that included a photo, ran on Tuesday. Leiler quickly made the connection and contacted Little Guy’s owner, Mandi Luca, who had circulated posters throughout the area.

Luca came to the Kellys’ home to thank them.

“She said Joey was the guardian angel of the dog today,” said Nancy Kelly, the boy’s mother.
