Dear Sun Spots: This is in response to L.T. of Lewiston (Sun Spots column Sept. 1):

Peace Pipe Lodge still exists!

I laughed when I read your request, as 30 years ago my father rented at Peace Pipe Lodge for our summer vacation. The owner at the time was Shelly Cohen who was a good friend of my father’s. Shelly and Ellie had three teenage boys and we all swam, water skied and cooked out. Dad and Shelly would go golfing.

A good friend of ours now owns Peace Pipe Lodge. The first time we went to visit you can imagine my surprise as I knew I had been there before and kept looking around. My eyes were drawn to the lighting fixtures, which were quite unique. It finally dawned on me that this was the lodge that my parents had rented from Shelly all those years ago. Most of the original charm of the lodge still exists. The lodge has been finished in tongue-and-groove pine, and it is beautiful. The lodge is one road up from The Birches in Litchfield and it is called Peace Pipe.

After visiting, I ran home and dug out some old pictures. In the pictures you can see the light fixtures and that huge fireplace. Wonderful memories of a beautiful place. – S.N., Sabattus.

Dear Sun Spots: I am writing in response to L.T.’s inquiry concerning Peace Pipe Lodge in Litchfield. It is very much in existence, and quite a few nice looking year-round houses have been built in Peace Pipe. The road into Peace Pipe goes through a cove named after my great-grandfather Andrew Jackson Tozier who fought at Little Roundop with Joshua Chamberlain in the Civil War.

I worked in the the Litchfield Post Office for 45 years and knew quite a few people in Peace Pipe. If the lady would like more information on Peace Pipe, she can reach me at 9 Neck Road, Litchfield, ME 04350, 268-4139.- Helen Allen, Litchfield.

Dear Sun Spots: Since Campbell Brown has retired from NBC, what is she doing until the birth of her child? When is it due? – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
According to wikipedia.org, Brown announced July 22 on Weekend Today that she would be leaving NBC news after 11 years to devote time to her family and expected baby. CNN also confirmed it had hired Brown and that she would start working for CNN in November. According to www.tvweek.com, Brown’s child is expected at the end of December and she’s hoping to be back at work in time for the Feb. 5 presidential primaries.

Dear Sun Spots: We are in need of a glass butter churn – as soon as possible – as we have broken ours. You can please call 897-4366 and leave a message. Or else please call 645-3066.
