DETROIT (AP) – Ticket sales for WrestleMania 23, which is scheduled for next year at Ford Field, already have made it the highest grossing live event in World Wrestling Entertainment history.

WWE Inc. said in a statement Saturday that it has grossed more than $4.35 million in ticket sales, surpassing the previous record of $3.9 million for WrestleMania X-8 at the Toronto SkyDome in 2002.

Stamford, Conn.-based WWE credited higher ticket prices for premium seating for the record.

Tickets were still available for WrestleMania 23, which takes place April 3 at the home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions.
