WATERFORD, Conn. (AP) – Waterford police were trying to identify the body of a man who was found early Saturday lying by the side of a road.

A passer-by saw the man lying by the side of Doyle Road just after 12:30 a.m. and called police.

The man was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, where he was pronounced dead. A bloodstain remained on the pavement Saturday morning.

Waterford Police, the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad and the New London County State’s Attorney Office were all investigating the death.

The man did not have any identification on him. His body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Farmington for an autopsy to help determine who he was and how he died.
