BOSTON (AP) – A second woman has been charged in the death of a 4-year-old boy who police say was killed by his foster mother.

A Suffolk County grand jury returned the indictment naming Dhayne White, 20, formerly of Dorchester, as an accessory to the murder of Dontel Jeffers.

Dontel died on March 6 after he was repeatedly abused over a five-day period, according to authorities. His foster mother, Corinne Stephen, 24, was charged last month with second-degree murder. Prosecutors say Stephen caused two major injuries that ultimately led to the boy’s death.

The Suffolk district attorney’s office did not release any details of White’s involvement in the boy’s death. White is the niece of Stephen’s stepfather, according to a statement from prosecutors.

Authorities do not have White in custody. According to immigration records, White left the U.S. on July 6 and is believed to be in her native Trinidad. Authorities want her extradited to Massachusetts.
