TILTON, N.H. (AP) – Two young men drowned in Silver Lake on Sunday when they were caught in a current from a nearby dam, but a passing boater saved their 9-year-old companion.
Authorities said the three had gone swimming around 5 p.m., but soon became caught in a strong current from the Lochmere Dam, which regularly releases water into the lake.
Officials said Jeffrey Lorette, of Belmont, was saved when a nearby boater pulled him to safety.
But Lorette’s 16-year-old brother, Nicholas, and their friend, Michael Squeglia, 20, also of Belmont, drowned. It took rescue crews until about 8:30 p.m. to recover their bodies.
