HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) -The father of a high school softball player was arrested Tuesday after police said he beat his daughter’s coach with an aluminum bat during practice.
Police said the parent, Mark Picard, apparently became upset over his daughter’s playing time while the Sacred Heart Academy team practiced Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said he struck the coach several times in the chest, head and legs.
The coach, who was not identified, was treated and released from the hospital.
Picard was charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a $25,000 bond.
and was to appear in Superior Court on May 31.
The Picard family had no comment when reached at their home by WTNH-TV.
