CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A rainbow trout weighing less than 3 pounds won a Hudson man a nearly 3,500-pound pickup truck Sunday at this year’s Great Rotary Ice Fishing Derby.
Neil Doiron, of Hudson, pulled in the 2.91 pound fish on Lake Winnipesaukee to win the derby’s top prize.
Drew Parenteau, of Franklin, landed a 2.63 pound rainbow trout in Lake Winnisquam to take home the derby’s second prize, a new boat.
Both men caught their fishes Saturday morning. Each trout was 18.5 inches long.
About 6,000 ice fishermen competed in the weekend event, organizers said. This year’s prizes were worth more than $60,000 overall.
Officials stock tagged fish in eight lakes for the annual derby, which has raised more than $1 million over its 26-year history, organizers said.
Last year’s winner caught a 3.18 pound rainbow trout in Lake Winnipesaukee.
