WAITSFIELD, Vt. (AP) – The Sugarbush Chamber of Commerce says signs for Irasville are confusing, but the Select Board has refused a request to take them down.
The signs on Route 100 that mark the beginning and end of the village of Irasville lead some visitors to believe they have left Waitsfield when they haven’t, said Susan Roy, the director of the Sugarbush Chamber of Commerce.
“Time and time again, we have had to assure ‘lost’ guests that they have not yet reached their destinations of businesses that are in the Irasville commercial district,” she wrote to the Select Board earlier this month.
“I am sure there is historical significance to Irasville; however, in the twenty years I have been here, it has escaped me. I would bet no one living or working in ‘Irasville’ claims Irasville as their home – rather Waitsfield generally enjoys that distinction,” she continued.
But at a meeting earlier this month, the Select Board refused.
“I’ve got a real problem with this. Irasville is part of our heritage,” board member Paul Hartshorn said, summing up the board’s position.
