Will Kannegieser shot a two-round score of 137 in a qualifying tournament Monday to secure his spot in the United States Amateur Championship next month.

The Minot native followed up his first-round 72 (1-over) with a 65 in the second round of the one-day qualifier at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Massachusetts, earning Kannegieser medalist honors.

Taconic is the home course for the Williams College golf team, which Kannegieser is a member of. Kannegieser’s teammate, Sam Goldenring, also qualified with a runner-up score of 139. Matthew Paradis of Hooksett, N.H., was the third and final qualifier after carding a two-round 143.

This year’s U.S. Amateur will be held at Pebble Beach in California from Aug. 13-19.
