PLAISTOW, N.H. (AP) – A man who may have been trying to make sure his family escaped from their burning home became trapped inside and died Wednesday, authorities said. Three others, including a baby, got out and suffered injuries.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Bill Degnan said the fire was reported shortly after 2 a.m. by an occupant of the burning home on Main Street who ran to a neighbor’s house.

He said occupants were trapped by the smoke and fire, and that one did not make it out.

The victim was described as a 25-year-old man who may been going through the home to make sure other family members had gotten out.

Three family members were taken to the hospital, Degnan said. There was no word on their injuries or conditions. No names have been released.

Authorities said a man, woman, teenage girl and her 2-month-old baby escaped the flames.
