KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) – A minister from Boston was stabbed to death in Jamaica while visiting family and friends in his native Jamaica, police said Sunday.

Winston Grant, 62, tried to escape his attacker Saturday night but lost control of the car he was driving and crashed into a wall, constable Richard Minott said.

The motive for the slaying was unclear and no arrests have been made.

Grant had been traveling with a female companion in his home district, an area known for gang violence.

The woman was unharmed.

Authorities said Grant was a minister of religion, but they did not say which church he served.

Jamaica, an island of 2.6 million people, has one of the world’s highest homicide rates, equal to roughly 10 times that of the United States.
