Group: Minot Selectmen
Met: Monday night
New cemetery
Issue: The apparent low bidder to cut, stump, chip and clear about three of the 16-acre addition to the Center Minot Hill Cemetery has withdrawn his bid.
The scoop: Selectmen directed Town Administrator Arland Saunders to rebid the cemetery work, with bids due at the town office by 5 p.m. Monday, April 21.
Up next: Selectmen will examine the bids at their April 21 meeting and act.
Concealed weapons permit
Issue: People wishing to carry concealed weapons in Maine must obtain a permit to do so.
The scoop: Until now, selectmen have chosen the option of having people file for concealed weapons permits at the town office then meet with selectmen before having their permits signed. On Monday, selectmen voted to end their responsibility for issuing concealed weapons permits.
Up next: Now, residents will have to contact Maine State Police.
School property survey
Issue: Minot Consolidated School, which sits on a portion of a 100-acre parcel of town land, is being deeded to the newly organized Regional School Unit 16. A survey is necessary to determine the exact boundaries of the land being deeded.
The scoop: Selectmen reviewed a preliminary survey of the school lot that marks out a little more than seven acres to be given to the new school system. Selectmen made a few revisions to lot lines and added an easement for a waterline extension to a portion of land being retained by the town.
FEMA reimbursement
The scoop: Saunders reported that the town received final payment of $18,558 for expenses caused by the Aug. 16, 2008, deluge that washed out several roads. Selectmen agreed to use about $1,500 of the Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursement to hook up a wireless network connection to the town garage.
