LEWISTON – Police are investigating the death of a Pierce Street man whose body was found hanging from a fire escape early Friday on Lisbon Street.
The death of the 46-year-old was believed to be a suicide. A group of people working at a law firm in the area spotted the body when they arrived at their office.
Police went to the area of 112 Lisbon St. at about 6:30 a.m. where they found the man hanging by a rope. It was not clear how long he had been there.
Lewiston police Lt. Mark Cornelio said there was no sign of foul play. However, the death remained under investigation and an autopsy was planned.
By late Friday afternoon, police were still searching for the man’s next of kin. He was not identified.
