OXFORD – A Poland man was killed Wednesday night when his snowmobile crashed into a camp on Hogan Pond.
The Maine Warden Service said Brent Howe, 52, died when he drove into a camp beside the lake. An investigator said Howe was riding ahead of two companions when he apparently misjudged a trail and struck a deck in front of the camp.
Paramedics from Oxford and Poland went to the crash site at about 9 p.m.
Hogan Pond, a popular area for ice fishing, is located between routes 26 and 121 and next to a stretch of Rabbit Valley Road in Oxford.
The crash Wednesday night was believed to be the fourth snowmobile fatality of the season in Maine.
Two teenagers died in separate crashes in December and an Island Falls man was killed when his snowmobile struck a tree earlier this month near Houlton.
A forensic team from the Warden Service was expected to return to the Hogan Pond scene Thursday to continue the investigation.
No one else was hurt in the crash.
