AUGUSTA – A noontime multi-vehicle crash in Augusta led to the closure of I-95 for nearly two hours Sunday afternoon.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said that about 12 cars were involved in the pile-up that led authorities to close both southbound lanes until late afternoon. At about 3:30 p.m., one lane was re-opened to traffic.
McCausland said the accident occurred between the two Augusta exits – 109 and 112 – and caused some injuries. He had no further details regarding the injuries or the cause of the accident. The turnpike speed limit was reduced to 45 miles per hour from Kittery to Augusta.
