AUBURN – Customers and employees were evacuated from Wal-Mart Friday night after a bomb threat was reported over a two-way radio.

The 6:45 p.m. threat was received over one of the radios employees use to communicate with one another, police said. The source of it was not known.

Customers and employees were advised to clear out of the store while police were on their way. When they arrived, Auburn officers called for assistance from Maine State Police.

One woman who was shopping in the store said she had to rush outside from the craft department with a leg injury. She estimated that four dozen people were forced to evacuate.

Police searched the building but found no explosives. Two hours later, employees were allowed back inside and the store was operating normally again.

The source of the threat remained under investigation. Nobody was hurt during the evacuation.
