LEWISTON – The 10th annual Maine Recycles Week will wrap up here with an open house at the solid waste facility Saturday, Nov. 15.
There will be tours at 8, 9, 10 and 11 a.m. by members of the Lewiston Solid Waste Committee.
Complimentary Maine Recycles Week posters were provided to the city by the Maine State Planning Office and the Lewiston Public Library is featuring a weeklong recycling display.
Michael Dumas, chairman of Solid Waste Task Force, said, “Maine Recycles Week gives us a great opportunity to stress the importance of recycling and responsible waste management with the community at large. By opening our facilities to the general public for tours, we have an opportunity to really showcase the great strides that Lewiston has been making to modernize recycling and waste management, as well as continue to look for new and better ways to handle an aspect of our lives that some take for granted. We’re very fortunate in Lewiston to have such a dedicated staff and I hope for a strong turnout by residents this Saturday to see that.”
Mayor Larry Gilbert Sr. said, “Maine Recycles Week was brought to my attention by a local landlord, and I think it’s a great opportunity to highlight the importance of recycling within our community. During the week, I am very pleased that people will be able to enhance their understanding about recycling at both at the library and at the solid waste facility.”
