LEWISTON – Empower Lewiston will brief residents about the group’s recent accomplishments and discuss plans for the future Nov. 17 at its annual meeting.
This is the organization’s 10th and final year as a part of the federally designated Enterprise Community program. The program is designed to bring economic and community development to some of the nation’s poorest communities.
Lewiston received the designation for two downtown census tracts, listed as the poorest in the state. The tracts encompass parts of downtown bordered by Lisbon Street, East Avenue, Webster Street and the Androscoggin River.
The annual meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Regional Technical Center’s Green Ladle, 156 East Ave.
The group has taken on three major projects for the next year:
• collaborating with transportation agencies and committees to improve the transportation options for downtown Lewiston;
• helping residents to establish a downtown cooperative grocery store; and
• creating a housing DVD for tenants, landlords and social service agencies.
The group also plans to pay for a grant-making process this year.
Appetizers will be served and door prizes given.
