LEWISTON – The Lewiston Farmers’ Market will host an Eat Local Festival on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the market in Kennedy Park. Sponsored by St. Mary’s Lots to Gardens Summer Youth Gardeners, the festival is being held during the nation’s Eat Local Week.

The youth who participate in St. Mary’s Lots to Gardens Summer Youth Gardener program have organized an exciting afternoon of festivities from 3 to 5 p.m., including local food tastings, veggie relay races, tie-dying, face painting and a veggie parade.

St. Mary’s Lots to Gardens uses sustainable urban agriculture to create access to fresh food, and to nurture healthy youth and a healthy community. Since 1999, participants in the program have built 15 gardens and green spaces in four diverse neighborhoods in Lewiston.
