AUBURN – KIDS Consortium will host an open house from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at its new office in the historic Garcelon House at 223 Main St.
The public is welcome to meet KIDS staff, the board of directors, and learn how young people are making a difference in their communities with service-learning projects.
KIDS help teachers, administrators and community partners work with K-12 students to identify, research and address community challenges, an approach known as service learning. Students gain learning experiences, forge stronger ties to their communities, and gain skills and confidence. Last year, KIDS Consortium engaged more than 6,000 students and 300 teachers in service-learning projects.
At Tuesday’s open house, students from Auburn, Lewiston and Portland will share their projects, followed by a formal welcome at 5 p.m.
And there will be free tools and resources available for those interested in learning how service learning can help students meet the Maine Learning Results. All business and community organizations, elected officials, educators, school administrators, parents and students are welcome.
