Therapy board
LEWISTON – The Maine Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association held its annual membership meeting recently and has announced the new board of directors: immediate past president, Jackie Flowers, Yarmouth; president, Robin Rand of Falmouth; first vice president, Walter R. Selens of Portland; second vice president, Michael Regina Whiteley of Belgrade; third vice president, Susan Walker of Windham; and treasurer, Amy Rolnik of Portland.
Delegates representing Maine at the national convention in Orlando for 2009 will be Walter R. Selens of Portland and Jennifer Polley of Gardiner.
Volunteers sought
AUBURN – The Brain Injury Association of Maine is in need of volunteers to help the day of the Walk for Thought on Saturday, March 22.
The walk sites are: Edward Little High School, Auburn; Brewer High School, Southern Maine Community College, South Portland; University of Maine at Presque Isle; Sanford Junior High School; and Colby College, Waterville.
There are a variety of jobs volunteers can help with, including check-in, rest stop support, food pick-ups/set-up and finish line cheering.

Conference set
AUGUSTA – The 2008 Maine Council for the Social Studies Conference will take place on Wednesday, April 2, at the Augusta Civic Center. The conference, “No Citizen Left Behind Part 2: Teaching Resources for Maine Teachers,” is dedicated to providing continued professional development for teachers to address the 2007 Maine Learning Results for Social Studies.
The conference will host a panel that will address participants’ questions concerning the revised Maine Learning Results and the proposed high school graduation requirement for social studies.
The cost of $35 includes morning refreshments, lunch, materials and Maine Council for the Social Studies membership. A total of 25 workshops and roundtable sessions will be offered. Interested participants must register for the conference by Wednesday, March 20.

‘Tenement Tales’
AUGUSTA – Old Fort Western’s 2008 Winter Lecture Series will continue with the program, “Tenement Tales: Stories about Fort Residents after 1840,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the learning gallery, City Hall, 16 Cony St.
Old Fort Western office and information coordinator Patti Violette and trustee Janet Doerr will speak. They have been researching newspaper accounts and talking with the descendants of people who lived at the fort. A few items belonging to a tenant present in 1860 will be on display.
