AUGUSTA – Communities for Children and Youth, in collaboration with the Muskie School of Public Service, is seeking applications from organizations across Maine that can utilize a full-time AmeriCorps*VISTA member to address anti-poverty initiatives focused on children, youth and/or seniors.

AmeriCorps*VISTA members volunteer a year of their lives to serve full-time with nonprofit organizations or government agencies.

Created in 1964 and modeled after the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps*VISTA’s mission is to support community-led initiatives that alleviate and eliminate poverty.

Project Coordinator Chip Curry, Muskie School of Public Service, said, “We expect to place AmeriCorps*VISTA members with approximately 50 organizations by August 2008. Combined, this represents an investment of $1.5 million in child, youth and senior anti-poverty initiatives.”

Funding comes from the Corporation for National and Community Service. Applications are being received through March 7.
