NEWRY – Maine Handicapped Skiing will hold the third annual Winter Veterans/No Boundaries program from Thursday to Monday, Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, at Sunday River.
The Veterans/No Boundaries program provides recreational activities to veterans and active duty personnel with a disability that may require adaptive equipment and techniques to participate in sports.
In addition to 23 veterans from the New England region, the organization will welcome three participants from the Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project. The project is a partnership between Disabled Sports USA, its chapters and the Wounded Warrior Project, providing year-round sports programs for severely wounded service members from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
The four-day event will include opportunities for alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding, snowshoeing and social networking. Breakfast, dinner and lunch will be provided through donations of local restaurants and individuals. There will be evening entertainment, including a casino night, and the Super Bowl.
Maine Handicapped Skiing is Maine’s largest year-round adaptive recreation organization, serving more than 300 children and adults with physical disabilities.
The Veterans/No Boundaries program invites a guest to attend with the veteran.
