I have it from sources at Central Maine Power that it plans to quietly pay some company in Massachusetts $50 million as an inducement to take the power CMP will provide if it can build a power line through the pristine western Maine mountains and forests. Yes, that power will service customers in Massachusetts, not Maine.
CMP claims the money is coming from profits, but where does it get such obscene profits? From Maine customers, that’s where. As I figure it, that comes to nearly $100 per ratepayer.
Just like all those windmills on so many hills in Maine, Massachusetts gets to crow about using renewable energy and Maine residents pay the price through environmental destruction while getting nothing for it.
