LEWISTON – Local people can sign up to participate in talks about how to make Lewiston-Auburn more youth-friendly at a kickoff of the four-week project at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25.

Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. will host the launching of YADA (Youth + Adults + Dialogue = Action) in the Lewiston City Council Chambers at 27 Pine St. Speakers will include Gilbert, YADA Steering Committee Chairman Larry Marcoux of the United Way of Androscoggin County, YADA Youth Facilitator Athena Andoniades of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council and state Sen. Peggy Rotundo.

YADA discussions will focus on ways to make Lewiston-Auburn more youth-empowered and youth friendly, with the first session taking place immediately following the kickoff, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library. The other three dialogue sessions will be at the same time and place on Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15. An action forum will take place on Dec. 6.

At the Oct. 25th kickoff, music will be provided by John Cote, who plays guitar, and Lewiston High School sophomore Hanna Rodrigue who is a fiddler. New Beginnings’ Hip-Hop Style Beat Boxers will conclude the celebration. Light refreshments will be served compliments of the Lots to Gardens Teen Cooking Club, Simones Hot Dog, Cafe Bon Bon, and Wei-Li Restaurant.

Registration forms will be available at the kickoff. However, those wishing to bring a completed registration form with them may obtain one by visiting the City of Lewiston Web page at www.ci.lewiston.me.us and clicking on YADA under “Special Notices.” Children under 18 who wish to participate must have the registration form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
