AUGUSTA – Maine Alliance for Addiction Recovery will host a recovery celebration in Capitol Park to recognize the millions of Americans who are in long-term recovery from addiction and are leading normal, productive lives that benefit their families and communities.
The celebration is one of more than 50 events that will be held nationwide on Saturday, Sept. 15, as part of the Rally for Recovery! during National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
In Maine, September has also been designated as Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month through proclamation by Gov. John Baldacci.
Hundreds of people in recovery from addiction, parents, friends and community recovery supporters will join to participate in a variety of activities from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be live music, family fun activities, recovery topic forums as well as free T-shirts and refreshments before and after the rally beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Debbie Dettor, MAAR coordinator, will lead the rally, during which proclamations will be read, total years of recovery of participants will be announced and a celebration cake will be cut. Speakers will say a few words. For more information, call or e-mail Dettor at 458-4366 or [email protected].
