AUBURN – The Auburn School Department is looking for a person to serve from September through November on the School Committee.
Committee member Greg Desgrosseilliers has accepted a job with Naval Sea Systems Command and will be moving to Washington, D.C., according to the School Department.
Desgrosseilliers was an at-large member, which means his replacement can live in any ward in Auburn.
People interested in serving may submit letters of intent to the School Committee, explaining who they are and why they’re interested. The committee hopes to review those letters at its next meeting on Aug. 22. A new member likely will be appointed by Sept. 6.
The letters should be addressed to committee Chairman David Das. They can be e-mailed to interim Superintendent Tom Morrill at [email protected], or to [email protected]. The words “School Committee Vacancy” should be in the e-mail’s subject line.
The letters may also be delivered to the school department’s office in Auburn Hall, or mailed to 60 Court St., Auburn, ME, 04210. The term will run into November since a permanent member will be elected by voters in November. Anyone interested in running for the at-large seat needs to take out nomination papers by Aug. 23.
Desgrosseilliers ran for office as a taxpayer watchdog who thought Auburn’s budget needed better oversight. He was elected in November.
