Three family members of a mother and son killed in a rollover on the Maine Turnpike Saturday afternoon were in the vehicle ahead of her at the time of the accident, The Morning Call of Allentown, Pa., reported Sunday.

Xantha Calsetta, 35, and Ciriaco Bearb, 3, were northbound in Litchfield when their Mercury Mountaineer drifted to the right, overcorrected and rolled three times before landing on its roof, according to Maine State Trooper Duane Doughty.

Calsetta’s 19-year-old cousin saw a car flip behind them, but couldn’t tell if it was Calsetta’s Mountaineer. When she got no answer from Calsetta’s cell phone, the family turned their car around and headed back toward the scene of the accident.

“It was fast. It was super-fast,” Christopher Laskey, Calsetta’s uncle, told The Morning Call. “We were back at the site in 10 minutes and it was very apparent that it was almost instantaneous death.”

Calsetta’s mother, Gail Kostolanci, talked to The Express Times of Easton, Pa., about her daughter and grandson on Sunday.

She described Calsetta as a dedicated mother, daughter and sister. “She was just a wonderful child and a great mom,” Kostolanci told The Express Times. “They will be greatly missed by all. I think they touched everybody’s heart that met them.”

Calsetta reportedly was a member of the MOMS club of Easton and active in her community.

The Morning Call reported that just under a week ago, Calsetta had participated in a fundraiser for fellow MOMS club member Pam Reinholz, who is diagnosed with cancer. “We are devastated,” Reinholz said. Calsetta was “just a very creative, fun-loving person and a great mom to her son.”
