Lisbon Town Council

Met: Tuesday

Issue: Each year all mobile home parks must be licensed by the town.

The Scoop: Councilors voted to renew the licenses of 13 mobile home parks at a cost of $10 each.

Issue: The town is reviewing all town codes and ordinances in an effort to bring them into compliance with the new town council form of government. In many instances, amendments are needed to delete references to selectmen and add town council, while others may need additional updating.

The scoop: May 15 has been set as the date for a public hearing on six chapters dealing with dogs, permits for various activities, parking zones, and a new ethics and conflicts-of-interest ordinance.

Issue: The seven-member Budget Advisory Board reviews both school and municipal budgets and makes recommendations for adoption.

The scoop: In a workshop session on the proposed $14.8 million school budget, the Budget Advisory Board is recommending cuts totaling $155,000, which would come from several lines in the budget, including a pickup truck lease, purchasing a saxophone, changing from a la carte lunches to a Type A lunch program, and not buying a modular home for the Sugg Middle School, among other things.

Next: The council will reconvene on May 8 to continue the discussion, and a public hearing will be held May 22. A $7 million municipal budget is being proposed for town operations, which is also being scrutinized by the Budget Advisory Board. Both the municipal and school budgets must be completed and adopted by the end of May, Town Manager Curtis Lunt said.
