LEWISTON – Bates Mill No. 6 is about to become famous.
OSRAM Sylvania, a lighting company, is using the old mill to shoot a 30-second TV commercial for new, environmentally friendly light bulbs called the e-Logic mini light bulbs. The shoot, which includes various bands playing “This Little Light of Mine,” will cost about $500,000.
“We’re expecting a fair chunk of that to be invested locally,” said Paul Badeau, marketing director with the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council.
AirStream Pictures, a production company based in southern Maine, is among the Maine groups working on the project. Bates Mill was selected for the shoot “because of its scale and beautiful architecture,” according to Georgia Gibbons, spokeswoman for Garrand Marketing Communications, which is handling the commercial’s public relations.
Workers spent Thursday setting up, and will shoot today.
