100 Years Ago: 1918

The members of the Bailey Hill Junior Red Cross in East Poland are working hard to make their lawn party and entertainment a success. In the afternoon there will be a sale of fancy and useful articles of food and ice cream on the lawn. There will be a farce, “More Time Out,” social and Victrola selections and readings, Wednesday, Aug. 14. If it should storm it will be held the next pleasant day.

50 Years Ago: 1968

Northeast Airlines is back in operation at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport, it was learned today. George Tomlinson, Northeast agent at the local airport, reported that the planes landed at the airport on Saturday morning and the regular schedule has now been resumed. Northeast had been forced to stop serving the Auburn-Lewiston area for about three weeks due to runway and taxiway repairs at the airport. The work was completed late last week.

25 years Ago: 1993

Sen. Bill Cohen, R-Maine, announces that Amy Naylor of Richmond will run his Lewiston office. Naylor, who has worked since 1989 as the planning director of the town of Brunswick, began her duties Aug. 9 and replaces Eric Howes, who accepted a position with Maine Yankee. From 1987 to 1989, Naylor was the development director for the town of Lisbon. Prior to that, Naylor worked as an economic development specialist in the State Development Office, and as a senior planner with the Southern Kennebec Planning and Development Council. Cohen’s Lewiston office serves constituents in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties, and is located at 11 Lisbon St. Naylor will join Beverly Ouellette, who has handled constituent matters in Cohen’s Lewiston office for eight years.
