LEEDS – A train derailed along Route 219 late Wednesday night, with one boxcar coming to rest on its side and the rest of the line blocking the roadway.

Androscoggin County Sheriff’s officials said there were no reports of injuries when the train derailed at about 10 p.m. at the intersection of routes 219 and 106.

It remained unknown how long it would take railroad officials to respond and get the derailed train uprighted.

Sheriff’s Detective Rielly Bryant said it was believed the train was carrying either corn or grain when it overturned. No hazardous materials were in any of the boxcars, and no other vehicles were involved. Bryant said.

A dispatcher contacted shortly after midnight didn’t know when the road would reopen.

Railroad officials were notified about the derailment and were sending representatives to the area late Wednesday night. Bryant said there were no immediate clues to what caused the train to slip off the tracks.
