AUBURN — Four Lewiston-Auburn educators earned special awards Friday.
Student Advocate Awards were presented to Lewiston Superintendent of Schools Leon Levesque, Auburn alternative middle and high school Principal David Eretzian and Central Maine Community College’s Kathleen Harrison. Lewiston Adult Education Director Eva Giles won the annual “Special Award.”
Auburn School Superintendent Tom Morrill praised the work Eretzian does at the Merrill Hill and Franklin schools.
Lewiston School Committee member Jim Handy credited Levesque with many accomplishments, including starting high school health and engineering programs.
Kathleen Harrison, the coordinator of Central Maine Community College’s Women in Technology Program, was credited with eliminating “massive barriers” for female students who want to go into male-dominated programs.
College for ME Chairwoman Jan Phillips said Giles’ undertakings to help people thrive in adult education and go on to college included basic literacy, English language learning and college readiness.
