LEWISTON – Parents, teenagers and community members are invited to a public forum on underage drinking and drug use on March 28 at Lewiston High School.

According to the 2004 Maine Youth Drug and Alcohol Use Survey for Androscoggin County, 47 percent of high school freshmen said they had had alcohol and 23 percent said they had used marijuana. By senior year, 70 percent said they had had alcohol and more than 43 percent said they had used marijuana.

This meeting is the latest in a statewide series of summits designed to get people talking about drinking and drug use among teens and to discuss possible solutions. Commissioner of Public Safety Michael Cantara and Attorney General Steve Rowe are scheduled to attend.

The meeting will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required. For more information or to register, e-mail [email protected] or phone Healthy Androscoggin at 795-5990.
