POLAND – Police released the name of a man Saturday who was killed a day earlier when his vehicle struck a tree.

Robert P. O’Brien, 65, of Richmond died at the scene of the accident. Police had withheld his identity Friday pending notification of next of kin.

O’Brien was driving his SUV on Route 11 when he apparently fell asleep. His Dodge Durango drifted across the center line, then swerved back and off the roadway into a gully. He lost control of the vehicle and it struck a tree on the driver’s side then rolled over on its side, police said.

A witness who was following O’Brien’s vehicle described the accident, police said.
