LEWISTON – Two local teenagers are suspects in an early morning stabbing on Pine Street.
Richard Murray, 55, 125 Pine St., was stabbed repeatedly in the stomach and slashed in the face early Saturday. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was described as stable Saturday afternoon, but no further information on his condition was available later that night.
“He had several puncture wounds to the stomach,” said police Sgt. Mike Parshall. “He had lacerations to the face and head.”
Police arrested two Lewiston teenage boys around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on charges of violating their probations. They are suspects in the attack and will be interviewed, said Sgt. David St. Pierre. Police are not releasing their identities because the suspects are juveniles.
Police said Murray was found bleeding on a couch after a neighbor reported hearing a commotion inside his apartment. They did not know what led to the attack, which was reported just before 6 a.m. Police are investigating it as an aggravated assault and, possibly, an attempted murder.
Police said the person who stabbed the man also made off with his vehicle, which was later found abandoned at Ash and Bartlett streets.
