LEWISTON – The Maine Poets Society will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Governor’s Restaurant, 1185 Lisbon St. Guests are welcome. Members and guests will be charged a small registration fee and will pay for their noon meals.
The morning session will include a business meeting and the results of the morning poetry contest. The afternoon session will consist of the results of the afternoon contest; a memorial for longtime society member Walter Sargent of Auburn, who died in July 2005; and a “reading in the round,” where attendees are invited to share a poem or two of their own.
Participation in the contests is open to members only. Members are to send two copies of their entries, one signed, one unsigned, to Anita Liberty in Alfred, by Feb. 1. Three winners and three runners-up will be selected for each contest.
The organization dates back to 1936 and meets three times a year. A newsletter, the “Stanza,” is published three times a year. A copy of the society’s brochure is available from Sally Joy, P.O. Box 2194, Augusta, ME 04338-2194.
