AUBURN – A Sixth Street man was hospitalized Friday night with a broken leg and other injuries suffered when he was struck by a car on South Main Street.

Philip Tarmey, 23, was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after the 5:30 p.m. crash near the intersection at South Main and Cook streets.

Tarmey had stepped into the roadway shortly after nightfall when he was struck by a station wagon driven by 56-year-old Maurice A. Galarneau of Auburn, according to a police report.

Tarmey was flung over the hood of the car and slammed into the windshield and roof frame of the Ford, police said. The windshield was smashed out and the frame dented from the impact of the collision.

No charges were filed in the crash, which remained under investigation. Tarmey was expected to recover from his injuries.
