AUBURN – Crews began digging alongside the Washington Street interchange of the Maine Turnpike Tuesday, adding a left-hand turning lane.

Flaggers will be directing traffic at the Washington Street exit during the work. Crews are scheduled to begin digging alongside the roadway this morning, moving drainage basins and traffic signal wiring.

The work is scheduled to continue this week. Overall, crews will be building a new median island, repainting the lane stripes and reprogramming the traffic light timing.
