DURHAM – A 19-year-old Durham man was charged Saturday in connection with a fatal accident on Runaround Pond Road late Friday night.
William Brown of 61 Quaker Meetinghouse Road has been charged with allowing a place for minors to consume alcohol, Maine State Trooper Ricci Cote said Monday. The drinking allegedly took place at his parent’s home, while they were away, Cote said.
The charge comes as a result of several interviews, including one with Brown, that Cote conducted after the crash. The accident took the life of 19-year-old Ryan Corliss of Freeport, who was pinned behind the steering wheel of his car and had to be removed by rescue personnel. He died on the way to Central Maine Medical Center. His passenger, 18-year-old Paul Biette, also of Freeport, sustained apparent minor injuries, Cote said.
Cote said he will be forwarding a copy of his report to the district attorney’s office for review.
“This is a perfect example of underage drinking” and what can happen, Cote said. It’s “very sad.”
He is scheduled to appear in 8th District Court on Dec. 8.
